Reproducing leaders and faith communities throughout New York City
‘But you will receive power when
the Holy Spirit comes upon you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and
in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.’
Acts 1:8
For hundreds of years, New York has been the
epicenter of economy and wealth, ambition and freedom, politics and power,
fashion and design, technology and freedom. The story of Christ has taken a
back seat to these stories, but each often fail to sustain us as human beings
who want to live deeply and in ways that are healthy for others and ourselves.
The good news of Christ provides a richer framework by which we operate our
lives; seeking His glory and the city’s renewal gives us a greater purpose for
our work and for the development of a city. No longer living out our sole
ambition, we seek to live for the benefit and renewal of others, resulting in a
city that will eventually change the world.
We believe our lives are better when we spend time in and care about where we live.
This is why Forefront is committed to reproducing neighborhood churches (currently
meeting on the UWS and in Gramercy) throughout the city connected by a common
mission and vision. Our neighborhood churches connect throughout the week in
small groups, which is where we live out the mission of our church, loving and
serving those closest to us. As Christ transforms our lives, we begin to care
more about our neighbors, serving them through care and compassion, renewing
our city block by block.
Isaiah
61:4, Acts 1:8
Our dream is that Forefront would change the
spiritual, cultural and social landscape of New York City by reaching
generations to come and creating a movement that extends throughout the whole
world. This is only made possible as we are led by the Spirit of God to risk
our faith, reach out to the lost and reproduce ourselves in others. We will develop
emerging leaders from within the church and invite others from around the world
to join us in our mission, reproduce themselves and prepare to begin a new
church or location in New York City. The result will be a network of
reproducing faith communities that helps thousands find their way back to God
and develops them to live in the ways of Jesus, therefore renewing lives,
neighborhoods and cities one by one. We have no illusion, though, that our
single church is sufficient to change the world; we are therefore committed partnering
with other churches committed both to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and to
reproducing faith communities in our city and around the world.
